- "Music is my obsession. It is my mistress..." Terry Vernixx began his musical journey in Texas. He grew up listening to progressive rock like E.L.P., Yes, Gentle Giant, Soft Machine, Gong, & King Crimson along with early New Wave like Wire, Human League, The Clash, Bauhaus, Talking Heads, & Japan. He learned musical notation, composition, and classical percussion in public school as well as through private tutoring. He was the original drummer for legendary Dallas aggro-rock band THE TOADIES. He has also been a member of the bands The Unscene, ESP, The Radio Gods, Sons Of Igor, Iceberg Slim, Big Joan, The Gideons, Parasite Lost, and Hot Piece Cousin.
Terry began working with electronic-based dance music in 1993 after hearing the first Underworld singles, seeing HARDKISS spin in Portland, witnessing DUBTRIBE several times, and grooving to the WICKED Soundsystem (Garth, Marky, & Jeno). After befriending legendary DJ TONY RUIZ in Portland circa 1994, Terry was mentored in beat matching and melodics by the master of House music. It was also around this time that he began composing original House & Techno.
Terry DJed at hundreds upon hundreds of house parties, illegal gatherings, warehouse Raves, and club residencies in the Southwestern US from 1996-2001. Originally know as DJ STRETCHY, he changed his artist name to VERNIXX in 2001 when he moved to North Carolina. He began tailoring original electronic musical hybrids of House, Techno, Electro, and Progressive. He co-hosted the wildly popular Saturday night FM radio show RPM on WZMB in Greenville North Carolina from 2002-2003. Terry scored 19 Number One songs on acidplanet.com from 2004-2006. He's been recognized internationally with headlining DJ playlistings as well as dance-radio airplay on BBC Radio One, Ministry of Sound, Frisky, voNYC, Sirius Area 33, and various XM Radio shows. He won WRVU FM's prestigious Remixer Of The Year Award in 2005 & 2006. He moved from Carolina to Oklahoma in 2004. He founded the digital electronic music label MOVER MUSIC in January of 2007 with Matt Mocean. After several long term club residencies in Tulsa and Stillwater, he relocated to his home base of Albuquerque New Mexico in early 2008. He represents exclusive promotional music by Slovenian techno artists under the EARRESISTABLE PROMOTIONS, JESUS LOVED YOU, CIRCLE RECORDS, VEZOTONIK, ASTRODISCO, WoW, ACID MILK, and FLOW MANAGEMENT labels. He is one of the only US DJ's playing this brilliant music...
He is currently spinning around the United States, while crafting new original tunes & remixes for various labels. His musical collaborations with production partner ANGELA MARIA PLETHORA range from Electro to Deep House to Techno with an emphasis on genre fusions.
